We try to have a new activity, snack, or craft every 1-2 hours to keep things fun and give brains a chance to work. Everything can be made or completed with simple materials that create little mess. Each child has their own cookie sheet to use as a lap table and we have one bag that has all of the basic supplies (glue sticks, markers, crayons, colored pencils, glue dots, etc.). In accordion style folders, I slide in the directions and extra materials needed for each project. So for the paper plate fish, the accordion folder had paper plates and google eyes. I generally make out a schedule for when to pass items back. I alternate snacks for every few busy projects. We throw in mysteries, joke books, and road trip games as well. As the kids get older, we plan to start doing some more detailed handicrafts too.Flat People Puppet Dolls

I miss the days of little hands doing crafts.
It was great to have them so busy on a very LONG road trip.
