Starting out with Fractions

Fractions can be confusing!

To take some of the difficulties out

of learning the concepts

involved in fractions,

we use pizza slices

from our

Pizza to Go game.

 We also discuss equal and unequal.

I took a piece of paper and tore it into a bunch of pieces.

Then we compare the sizes

to see if they were equal or not.

We practice this by using our cusinaire rods

and drawing lots of picture of the problems with the actual number of items.

The Miquon Blue Book has some pages that are helpful as well.
