When the kids are young, we use digital clocks around the house and read the times together. Sometimes we use a play, analog clock and make the hands match what the digital clock says.
Then we begin discussing the hour and half hour. It is nice if your child has a watch of his/her own to practice. This is about all we do until the kids turn 7.
