Koru Naturals: Pure Emu Oil and Koolpurrie Restoring Balm {A Review}

Each day our kids spend lots of time outside. If it is hot and sunny, they are in the shade or playing in the water. If it is wet and muddy, they have wellies on and are bound to be splashing in the muck. If it is a warm, spring day (which I could really use today), they are on the deck breathing it in. And if it is cold and snowing , they are bundled in their snow boots, snow pants, hats, gloves, and coats riding down the hill on their sleds or making snow forts.

Right about now, when it is snowing another 4 inches and I'm getting really tired of the cold, dry air, we could all use some relief from our chapped, itchy, irritated skin. So when Koru Naturals sent us Pure Emu Oil and Koolpurrie Restoring Balm I was super excited!

About the Products
The Koolpurrie Restoring Balm is 1.4 oz and comes in a clear, plastic container. The ingredients are simply Emu Oil Grade A and Lanolin Anhydrous USP. It is a butter cream color and has little odor. It's recommended for dry and damaged skin of hands, elbows, knees, and feet. Use externally only.

The Pure Emu Oil is 2 fl. oz and is for external use only. The bottle is brown and plastic. It is liquid that is light colored to clear. It is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. It's recommended use is for skin moisturizing, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Our Experience
Jo-Jo always seems to wear the worst of the winter weather on her skin. She washes her hands a lot and her gloves irritate them. So before she would go to bed at night, Poppa would rub her hands down with the balm. By morning, the redness and irritation would be gone.

Poppa thought he might use the balm on his fingertips that get dry and crack open in the winter from his work gloves (I guess that shows us where Jo-Jo gets it!). He tried it for a couple of days, but he applied it in the evenings right before he was going to practice his guitar. Lanolin makes things extra greasy for a bit, so that wasn't a good combination.

So we've learned to use the balm at night on areas that you need to use during the day (hands and fingers).

When using the balm, be sure to put it on with clean hands. Otherwise you could introduce bacteria into the container.

Before receiving the products, I did lots of research about the different proposed uses for emu oil. For myself, I really wanted to try it on my carpel tunnel wrists and my ankle which was injured in a car accident almost 2 decades ago. It flairs up and swells from time to time. My face is acne prone and I had read that it helps with your blemishes as well. However, I read that it has not been approved for pregnant and nursing mothers. So...I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to use the oil.

And then it happened. A dear friend (the kids call her Grandma, Grandma, Grandma) was over one morning for doughnuts and tea (isn't homeschooling great!). She was on her way to her pottery studio. At one point she mentioned, that her shoulder was causing her a lot of pain. She could not lift it over her head. Throwing clay is not easy on your arms and shoulders. That was when it hit me. "Hey try this!" In about 10 minutes, it wasn't hurting any more and she could lift her arm over her head. She said, "Could it really work that fast?" She went on to the studio and worked all day. We meet her for cheeseburgers and fries for dinner. When I asked how it was feeling, she said that it was just starting to hurt again. It had been about 6 hours.

The oil should be shaken well before use.

Recommendation
We can say that the balm definitely heals that chapped winter skin and the oil works wonders for muscle aches.

Wishing you homeschool blessings,
