I received a free copy of Shout Praises Kids: Ultimate Kids Christmas Worship CD from Family Christian in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way for writing the review. All opinions I have expressed are my own or those of my family. I love Christmas songs! I always have. BUT I want them on my terms. In fact, I would prefer not to listen to Christmas songs until mid-December. I will change the station on the radio if they start playing Christmas music before I'm ready. True story.
It isn't that I don't love the holiday. I truly do love Christmas. Most of it anyway. But I just want Christmas music, when I want Christmas music. Am I the only one? Can I get an AMEN?
One of my favorite times to listen to Christmas music is when we put up our Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving (and, yes, that is {technically} in November. Okay so maybe I do like Christmas music in November, but still only when I want to listen to it, not when someone else decides).
On that weekend, we get the tree out, cover it in twinkling lights, adorn it with handmade decorations, string popcorn, and listen to Christmas music. Now for confession time. I've been limping along on a Christmas CD I purchased about 14 years ago. And by limping, I mean, some of the songs I don't like and I have to skip them, so we can listen to ones that we do want to hear.
But now that has all changed since I have had the chance to review Shout Praises Kids: Ultimate Kids Christmas Worship CD. Not only do I thank Family Christian for sending this one to us to review, but so do the kids.
I played it for them the day we got it in the mail. They immediately wanted to listen to the full thing again. (Yes. I am aware that I am listening to Christmas songs in November, but...well you know...I want to listen to Christmas music when I want to listen to it.)
After all, Psalm 100:1-2 calls us to..."Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing" (even if it is November).
Shout Praises Kids: Ultimate Kids Christmas Worship CD has 12 songs, remixed from traditional songs and includes features by Lincoln Brewster, Kari Jobe, and Cathy Burton. It definitely has a rock flare.
The track list includes:
Joy To The World
All The Earth Will Sing Your Praises
Angels We Have Heard On High
You Shine
I Adore You w/ O Come All Ye Faithful
He Made A Way In A Manger
Glory To God
Christmas Offering
Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
Adore Him
We All Bow Down
Silent Night
You can hear samples of the tracks here. Wondering which are our favorites? My favorites are Angels We Have Heard on High, I Adore You with O Come All Ye Faithful, He Made A Way In A Manger, Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee, and We All Bow Down. Ceesa says she likes Away in a Manger and Silent Night. Jo-Jo says she likes Silent Night, He Made a Way in A Manger, and Joy to the World. Li says he likes "all the music." See...there is something for everyone (even in November, wink)!

DeleteIn our town, the local Christian radio starts playing Christmas music 24/7 the day after Thanksgiving. But our family LOVES this! It's become part and parcel of our Christmas traditions.
ReplyDeleteJust a few more days to go!! :)
At least it is after Thanksgiving!! :)
DeleteUsually start listening to Christmas music Thanksgiving Day until Christmas. Pretty constant during that time! Just puts me in a good mood. Crazy to think that some stores have it playing already...even beginning before Halloween!
