For Such a Time as This {A Review}

 I received a free copy of For Such a Time as This from Family Christian in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way for writing the review. All opinions I have expressed are my own or those of my family. I am disclosing this information in accordance with the FTC Regulations.

Every night before the kids drift off to sleep, we pray over them. We pray for blessings and protection, for straight paths and wise discernment. If they are staying at a friends for the night, we pray over them before they go. If we are at camp volunteering, we pray over them before they head to their cabin with their friends. If they are having a sleepover, we pray for them and their friends (even when the friends are much older teenage girls).

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, "Pray without ceasing." As a parent of 4 children, I can honestly say that I spend most of my time  continually praying, sometimes with my head bowed, sometimes with joy, sometimes as I am chopping onions, sometimes on my knees, sometimes in frustration, sometimes by a bedside, sometimes driving down the road, sometimes changing diapers, sometimes in despair, sometimes while cuddling, sometimes in peace...well you get the idea. Pretty much, I'm always praying.

For my daughters, I pray that they will be the mighty warriors (Hebrew for woman) that God has made them to be. I pray that they will truly know that their beauty is not what is reflected in the mirror. That their beauty is from the light of God that comes from within them. I pray that they understand that their character is so much more important then what is popular. I pray that their love for God grows and develops into a relationship that will support them from everlasting to everlasting. I pray that they will always lean on the Lord and not on their own understanding. I pray that they will be still in His presence and know that He is God. That they will listen to that still small voice. Oh, and so much more.

One thing is for certain...Our daughters' hearts matter! In a society, where war is raged on them everyday and they are attacked from all sides. From their beauty to their wit to how they dress to how their bodies look to impossible expectations on their time, they are tackled at every turn.

It is wonderful to find that I am not the only one that desperately wants our daughters to find peace.

You can get your very own copy of For Such a Time as This here.

For Such a Time as This is a hardcover book with 256 pages and is full of illustrated retellings of stories of women from the Bible. Women from all different situations are highlighted, showing good character and Godly qualities and the ugliness of a sinful nature. There are 40 stories; some include: Eve, Hagar, Rebekah, Rahab, Delilah, Naomi, Bathsheba, Jezebel, Esther, Mary, Anna, Martha, Tabitha, and Lydia.

The retellings are all provided with the books and chapters where the stories are located so that the reader can look up the scripture directly from the Bible.

After each retelling their is a page with the sections titled: He, Me, and She. In the He sections, you will find revealing discussions about the character of God that was exemplified in the story. In the Me section, there is a focus on how the girls can practice the truth that the story teaches. In the She section, heartfelt prayers that you can pray over your daughters are provided. And finally the page has a memory verse with a key word that is translated from the Hebrew or Greek to explain further.

One of my favorite parts is the last part: "Story Sketches and Notes." It has information from the author and illustrator explaining decisions that were made during the writing and illustrating processes. This struck a cord with us as we love creating art and working on new projects. To see how these two lovely ladies, Angie Smith and Breezy Brookshire, came together in an attempt to glorify God and lift up our daughters.

Are you wondering about our experience with For Such a Time as This? Well, Ceesa was often found with the book in her hands.

Actually until she read through the entire book, she wouldn't let anyone else touch it.

She decided that it would be a terrific devotional to read at lunch to the entire family. She is too dear for words. She sits at the table reading it to everyone (even her brothers :)!

There are so many things about this book to love, from the beautiful illustrations to the suggestions for praying scripture over our daughters.

If you would like to share stories of the women in the Bible with your daughters in a storybook retelling, this is a terrific book for you. If you would like some inspiration for praying over your daughters, this book is for you. If you would like to expose your child to examples of Biblical character (good and bad), this is a wonderful way to do so!

"They are stories of great mercy and grace that make up the history of our faith, and they were put here to guide our daughters through their own walks of faith, passed down to them for such a time as this." ~Angie Smith in A Letter to Parents from For Such a Time as This

  5. My daughter is special because she beat the odds. Things didn't look quite right at my first ultrasound and they said the pregnancy only had a 50% of continuing. I had already had two miscarriages so I was devastated. At the follow up ultrasound the next week, all the problems had disappeared and everything looked perfect. My healthy beautiful baby girl was born 8 months later. Me, her daddy and her 5 big brothers are absolutely in love with her :)
