Crassus was one of the richest men in all of history, one of the best public speakers, a Roman General, and a politician serving as consul. He lead the army that crushed the slave revolt headed by Spartacus (once in the military, sold as a slave, and then made to be a gladiator). Crassus crucified 6,000 of Spartacus's followers.
Crassus fled to Spain and hid in a cave when his father and brother were murdered. The owner of the cave sent him food to live on everyday. After 8 months, he came out of hiding and joined the military.
He was also one of the First Triumvirate (an unofficial alliance), in league with Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great (whom Crassus was jealous of and an enemy), paving the way from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. The First Triumvurate fell apart when Crassus died at the Battle of Carrhae in which Crassus' own greed brought about the death and capture of 30,000 Roman soldiers.
