Nature Study: Painted Lady

Our next butterfly brought us up close and personal with the Painted Lady.

  • overwinters in Mexico
  • migrates to North America in summer
  • rapid, erratic flight
  • numbers vary from uncommon to common in our area
  • small pale green eggs laid singly on thistles, mallows, & hollyhocks
  • likes open areas where people have been
  • have multiple generations in a brood
