Inspired by Almost Unschoolers, we made our own sidewalk chalk grid mystery game.
We found a fairly simple online grid to print off. I added a couple of extra lines. Labeled the back and then cut out the squares.
I drew out and labeled a grid on the sidewalk.
I gave the kids the squares, but didn't tell them what the picture was of. They got started drawing.
I went around their lines in the color that would be most recognizable to them and started filling in as they worked.
It wasn't long until a frog began to take shape.
It was so fun, they wanted to start inside on graph paper.
Which led to more grids...

Thanks for the mention :) The frog is adorable - no wonder they wanted to draw more!
It is a great idea. I didn't realize how detailed doing a grid was this way and how easy it is to make mistakes! After the extra practice, we got better, but boy it is important to double check which box you are drawing in!
