Logic of English sent us The Rhythm of Handwriting Complete Set Cursive ($68.00) to review. 

What's included

• The Rhythm of Handwriting Cursive Student Book-Comes as a soft cover workbook and includes Steps to Teaching Handwriting, Handwriting Tips, Suggested Schedules, Ideas for Handwriting Practice, and explanation of the Handwriting Chart. The student pages start with lowercase letters and then move into uppercase. The letter is shown, the sound coding is provided, arrows to show the formation, and directions for how to make it are given. The child is to write out the individual letters once very large and then across 8 lines. These lines are small (about 1/4 inch) gradually up to 1/2 inch.

• Cursive Chart-Has sections with a sample of the letter or stroke and directions for how to make that letter. Eleven Steps to Teaching Handwriting are included as well.

• Dry Erase Board (7 3/4 by 11)-One side has 5 sections of 1 3/4 inch lines and the other with a 3 1/2 inch section of lines. The lines are one thin, one dashed, and one thick.

• Cursive Tactile Cards-contains 75 instructional cards that are 6 inches by 4 1/4 inch with lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, or strokes in green on one side. The green marks are textured and feel a bit like sandpaper. They are on lines and the stoke cards have arrows to show which direction to make the stroke. The other side of all of the card has information about the letter, number, or stroke.

• Stroke cards tell the name of the stroke and how to make it. (13 cards)
• Letter cards tell the letter, what kind of letter it is, sound coding, a word or words that contain the letter, and directions for how to make it. (26 upper case and 26 lower case) **The lower case q is included as qu instead q alone.**
• Number cards give directions for how to make the number. (10 cards)

Sequence Philosophy

• encourages children to start with cursive
• uses a custom font developed especially for the company
• all lowercase letters begin on the baseline
• uppercase letters only connect to the next letter if they end on the baseline
• capital Q simplified to reflect the manuscript version
• closely matched to the manuscript font
• letters presented  in conjunction with the strokes they make (swing, curve, loop, bump, roll, circle, slash)

• letters presented with connecting to baseline or not, and with a dip connector
• two miscellaneous upper case letters
• start with individual letters move on to words to emphasis the connection to baseline and dip connectors

Additional Materials Required
We needed a pencil and dry erase marker and eraser.

Time Frame
I let Jo-Jo work on this on her own, so I invested very little time. She would spend about 15 minutes copying the letters for each session. Both of these could be modified based on the needs of your child however. You may wish to teach each letter and lengthen or shorten the writing time. 

What Jo-Jo had to say

Jo-Jo thought it took a long time in the manner we worked through the book. She would have preferred for us to have completed half a page a day with just one letter at a time. And she liked working on the pages with different letters versus the pages with one letter per page.

Who we'd Recommend this Program for

We'd recommend the The Rhythm of Handwriting Cursive book program for those that want a strong foundation in formation of the cursive letters with opportunities to practice the strokes in repetition.
