Here are our recent exams. We include some fun things in the afternoons and work diligently and purposefully on the handful of questions that I ask in the mornings. I thought I'd share them with you!
Year 5 Term 2 Exam
Bible,
Literature, Government, Citizenship, and History: Characterization with written
expression (narration, proposal, persuade, problem/solution, instructions, list)
The
Bible tells us how to live a good life for him. There are lots of times that we
slip up or see other people slipping, but it is important that we try to live
upright lives and encourage those who need it. In the stories and books that we
have read, we see people that live in a way that would be pleasing to God and
others who do not.
Think
about those that do seem to make good choices. How do they behave? What do they
say? Now think of those that don’t. What kinds of things do they do and say?
Choose
a person or a character you know that does not live righteously. Write out your
thoughts on how to encourage him/her to be persuaded to lead a life worthy of
Christ.
Science:
The Greater
Meaning with visual expression
(diagrams, blow-outs, maps, graphic organizers, chart)
Inventions can make life easier and free people from tasks that
are difficult and labor intensive. Inventions from a hundred years ago can make
things easier today. One invention can lead to another invention and to
another. What invention that we’ve studied stands out to you?
Fill in a wheel. Write the invention in the box in the middle and use
the triangle spaces to fill in answers to the questions. Consider how the
invention impacted the inventor? What about the people living then? What were
the consequences of the invention? What influence does it have on our lives now?
Science and nature study: Viewpoint with creative
expression
(handicraft, recycled material project, diorama, cooking,
land art, or art media: collage, paint, mold, chalk, pencil)
We’ve studied the body, the amazing roles of the parts and how
they are protected or protect. We’ve studied birds and learned about the ways
they prepare and survive the winter. We’ve studied the stars and the sun.
Everything has a perfect balance. The balance between cold and hot, far and
near, spring and fall, all affect us deeply.
Geography,
History, and Citizenship: Background with oral expression
(presentation: Defend, Persuade, judge, compare/contrast, inform, narration)
We’ve
been reading about Lillias Trotter, a missionary to Northern Africa. It is
never easy to be a missionary, to bring light where there is darkness. What was
it like for Lillias to live most of her life serving? What did it mean to live
in Algiers during the early 1900’s? How did the rulers make things difficult?
How did peoples’ dress influence how Lillias and her companions dressed? What
was a day in their lives like? What did their homes look like?
Prepare
a speech to inform someone that is interested in going into missions in
Northern Africa what it was like for Lillias.
History, Citizenship, and Geography: Mood with Movement
(play, puppet show, music, dance)
Things
were tense before, during, and after the Civil War. The entire mood of the
nation was hostile. The South desperately needed to maintain their slaves to
keep their way of life thriving. President Lincoln needed to hold the states
together. The North fought because of the appeal from the president and many felt
it was the right thing to do. Out West people fought out of defense and some
for adventure.
How
would you feel being there with them? Would you be scared, content, worried,
anxious, joyful?
Composer (ballets), folk song, hymn, card making, and artist: Drama, Movement, and
Change with written expression (narration, proposal,
persuade, problem/solution, instructions, list)
Relationships
fill up our days. Relationships with the each other. Relationship to the
seasons. We can see relationships within plays and ballets that we watch, in
pieces of art, and in songs that we hear. In our lives we have an incredible
power to build healthy, loving relationships with one another and those God has
put into our lives.
Create
a list of people in your life and come up with some ways that you can build healthy
loving relationships with them.
