Homemade Wahoo Game

When I was a little girl, my grandparents ran a farm. I loved going to visit them. We would go out to the milking parlor and I would listen to the cows mooing and the milk splashing and gurgling through pipes. I would eat currents from bushes in early summer, warm apples through the summer, and ripe purple grapes from the vine in the fall. I would drink water from the spring house and shuck field corn for the chickens.

Inside, Grandma would always have crayons and coloring books, homemade play dough, uno, a deck of cards, and sugar cookies. At night before bed we would eat homemade ice cream. And there was also a Wahoo board, that my grandfather had made. We would play it with the stash of marbles that grandma kept in an old tin.

So much has changed since I was a girl. The apple trees have been felled. The cows and chickens are gone. Store bought ice cream has replaced the homemade and Grandma doesn't make her sugar cookies or play dough any more. But the marbles and Wahoo board are still in their places. I decided it would be a great present for Poppa to make one for the kids, just like Grandpa made for us.

We found directions here at youaremyfav and got to work.

I painted 20  ¾ inch wooden balls in four different colors and
4 ¾ inch wooden blocks cubes for dice.

Poppa made the board from 2ft x 2ft piece of  ¾ inch plywood

and a with a ½ inch bit drilled the holes.

We surprised them for Christmas.
