Animal Study: Mouse

A mouse's head seems to be an extension to its body. "The head, narrowing down to that little pointy, sniffy nose, sniffing and smelling and pointing the way. What about those whiskers, long and shivering, trembling, telling the mouse if danger is near. The mouse's tail, long, and made in rings, is a wonderful tool for the trunk, made so that mouse can stand on its own tail and reach up to climb."  ~Mama-Aya at lower case learning, a great resource for a Man and Animal block.

The house mouse is a great traveler. They can go from American to Europe on ships. White-footed mice don't hibernate, but run around in winter. They are very good at climbing trees and are just as at home in the trees as on the ground. They use their tails to brace themselves when climbing and use it to balance when climbing walls. They are very timid and stay very close to their nests. Their nests are in bushes, bird nests, and  under the ground. They are thirsty fellows so their nests are near water. They eat nuts.
