About the Book
George Washington: True Patriot comes in 4 formats: paperback ($6.99), kindle ($6.99), nook ($6.99), and audio book ($16.49).Reading the Book
George Washington: True Patriot gives a look into the life and times of George Washington from when he was a young boy to his presidency. Although we've read about George Washington before, there is always something new to learn and I found the information about his overbearing mother to be interesting. Not every story contains my most favorite fact about George Washington, but George Washington: True Patriot does. In a battle against a group of Native Americans, Washington received many bullet punctures in his jacket, but none of them pierced his skin. In another story I read it tells how he later met one of the leaders of the tribe that told him, his warriors were aiming for the men on horses. After several shot at him and he didn't die, the leader of the tribe decided he was not supposed to die.

It provides many activity suggestions, too many to be covered in one unit, so you can pick and choose based on the needs, learning style, abilities, and interests of your child.*Key Quotes-used to memorize, build meaning for time, or to display.
We actually choose to use these quotes as copy work for our commonplace notebooks.
Display Corner-Suggestions are provided for labeling, collecting, and displaying objects that relate to the life and times of George Washington.
Chapter Questions-there are 4 types of questions provided for each chapter: vocabulary building, factual, comprehension, and open-ended.
*Student Explorations-consist of essay questions, creative writing assignments (newspaper articles, poems, letters, resumes, journals and songs), hands-on projects (charts and graphs, models, comic strips, family crests, mottoes, dioramas, book covers, and mobiles), audio/visual projects (mock interview, radio play, commercial, still and video cameras), and arts and crafts. We liked the suggestion to write a poem including: “First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen,” but we didn't get to it.
