Free and Low Cost “Whole”istic Learning Opportunities: Writing

We believe in a “whole”istic approach to learning (which is generally free and low cost). So what does that mean to us for writing? Well...it is like this...  

• Write letters to pen pals, homeschooling groups, folks in service, elderly in nursing homes, and family members.
• Do Mad Libs for learning parts of speech.
• Play games like go fish, old maid, matching, and others with high frequency words.
• Meet authors at libraries or book stores.
• Do puzzle books with word searches, acrostics, cryptograms,  and crosswords.
• Learn morse code and send messages to each other.
• Learn a word of the week together.
• Keep an experiment notebook recording our experiments and results.
• Keep a commonplace notebook for accumulating a collection of quotes.
• Keep a devotional book for Bible readings.
• Keep a nature notebook for recording interesting facts about things we are learning about.
• Tell stories about family times, the day, or fairy tales.
• Write thank you's to folks that have helped us with learning.
