Winter Celebrations

I have been working at this for a while now. Well, the entire winter season. After reviewing, All Year Round, I was inspired to start some new family traditions full of celebrations. Here’s what our winter looked like…

Advent: Mary’s Star Trip
 

For Winter Solstice, we set up our seasonal winter table with a pale mauve cloth, rocks and crystals, snowflakes, snow fairies, and shells.

 
 
We were even blessed with snow!


During the 12 Days of Christmas, we sang the 12 Days of Christmas song and each day we opened heart pockets with an origami surprise in each.

On Jesus’ Birthday, we sang and read the story of his birth and had birthday cupcakes!

For Epiphany, we made crowns to wear all day.
 

On Candlemas, we made floating candles for the days getting longer.

With Valentine’s Day, we made homemade valentines inspired by an old article in Family Fun.

For Purim or the Feast of Lots (this Sunday), we made groggers. On Sunday, we will read Esther and shake our groggers whenever Haman is mentioned!

    I love your new winter traditions. We try to include lots of traditions, too. It seems to mean a lot to the kids. I really want to add the Jewish holidays, too, but I have not been able to yet. Perhaps I will be motivated to start Purim this Sunday! Thanks for the reminder!

      Yes. The Jewish celebrations are high on my list this year too!

    I enjoyed looking through your winter seasonal traditions, what nice ideas. I especially liked the idea about Purim and the groggers craft, as a Sunday school teacher I am always looking for interesting ideas, I will have to remember this next time I teach the story of Esther. :)

      We took the groggers and read the story with our Sunday School class too!
