Our folk song for the term is Gypsy Rover.
Gypsy Rover is either an Irish or Scottish folk song and is essentially about a lady of noble birth falling in love with a man of Rom (gypsy) descent. The lady leaves the father in secret and the father comes after them. When the father catches up to them, he finds that the Rom man is king of all the lands.
The name gypsy came from the belief that the Rom people were from Egypt, but it has since been proven that the "gypsies" came from India.
Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany
