Christopher Columbus was likely inspired by Marco Polo's book.
Christopher Columbus' book is in Spain. You can see his hand drawn notes inside.

Louise Andrews Kent writes a terrific series of books...
"He went with..."
She has one for Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Magellan, Vasco da Gama, Champlain, Drake, and Hannibal.
We are reading "He went with Christopher Columbus."
Ceesa found this project and started working on it all on her own.
We later put the cap back on
as Little Man started shoving the crew inside.
I love the crow's nest.

We used this map of Columbus' journeys.
Then we did a google search for pictures
We choose four and printed them off to be our pawns.
Then we made a game board from the map.
Even though the Santa Maria was only used on his first voyage.
We used the replica pictures on all of the voyages.
We made game cards to move on our journey.
Next, we made paintings of ships...
Ceesa
Jo-Jo
We used the samples at Deep Space Sparkle to draw them.
Then came the bedroom boat.
We learned about 10 different knots.
I know this picture looks like Ceesa is tying Jo-Jo up
while little man holds Jo-Jo down.
But really that is not what they are doing.
Really. I promise. :)
Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany
