Interesting Hurricane facts from Sky Diary:
1) Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are different names for the same type of storm. The name used depends upon the region where the storm is developing.
2) A hurricane can be hundreds of miles across.
3) Air sinks in the clear center which is the eye. This area is very calm and can be 5 miles to more than 100 miles across.
4) Hurricanes can create a storm surge, which causes a tremendous amount of damage. A storm surge is a rise of water due to a tropical storm.

We were inspired by this experiment to create our own hurricane:

It is mostly the reverse situation of a hurricane, but it helped to show us how the eye works.
