I am always amazed at the butterflies in the fall.
I'm not sure why.
Maybe its because I'm not expecting so much beauty still lingering
when winter is so close at hand.
The Eastern Black Swallowtail
was one we were able to capture a picture of
as it went about on its way.
We found some terrific videos to share.
From molting to creating its chrysalis,
it is pretty neat.
Since we had its picture,
we decided to include
a drawing of the caterpillar
so that we could identify it later.
Interesting fact: The swallowtail has orange pockets that turn inside out exhaling a foul odor. These pockets make horns.
Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany
